South Congregational Church and City Central Church in Mutare were joined as Ukama Partners in August of 2001, and the Ukama partnership has become a vibrant part of South Church.

2010   sent representative to Zimbabwe

In 2010 South Church sponsored Charen Urban to join a NHCUCC delegation of 15 that spent 17 days touring Zimbabwe, where she spent several days at City Central Church, as our first direct church to church contact in Zimbabwe.

2013   sponsored visit by Rev. Maazda

In 2013 South Church sponsored Rev. Liberty Maadza of City Central to come to New Hampshire as part of a UCCZ delegation and spend several days at South Congregational Church as our first direct church to church contact in Newport.

2015   sent mission to zimbabwe

In 2015 Charen Urban, Henry Hamilton, Bryan LaFountain, Teriko MacConnell and Bill Wilkinson traveled to City Central Church to assist with the building of a Fellowship Kitchen and to visit the Daisy Dube Children’s Home (DDH) at Mt Selinda. Since then South Church has provided funds periodically to enhance protein in the diet at DDH.

2017   sent delegation to zimbabwe

In 2017 Charen Urban, Heidi Barlett, JoNell Hamilton, Bryan LaFountain and Karen Little went to City Central Church to celebrate the ministry of Rev. Maadza and to meet his replacement, Rev. Ponai Mutoo.

2018   sponsored visit by Samuel Mwayengeni

In 2018 South Church sponsored Samuel Mwayengeni an active lay person from City Central Church as participant in an NHCUCC delegation and visitor at South Church for several days.

2019   hosted Rev. Gondongwe

In 2019 the Board of Christian Outreach and Rev. Chuck Kennedy hosted Rev. Kennedy Gondongwe, Principal of the Theological Seminary in Harare.

2020  SENT CONTAINER TO ZIMBABWE

In 2020 the Board of Christian Outreach gathered and delivered items for a Zimbabwe container shipment sponsored by New Hampshire churches in the partnership.

In 2021 the Board of Christian Outreach gathered and delivered items for a Zimbabwe container shipment sponsored by New Hampshire churches in the partnership.

The Ukama partnership goes beyond visits and correspondence to engage in cooperative mission work uniting the two congregations. South Church combines its resources with those of City Central, whose members become our “boots on the ground” providing relief after Cyclone Idai and food for needy families. We send material aid whenever a container is shipped from New Hampshire and whenever travelers can carry relief funds. Through the Ukama Partnership with City Central Church our faith is deepened and our international understanding is authentic and passionate.
