NEWPORT, NH — The South Congregational Church's annual Voyageurs Canoe Trip traces its roots to a Senior High Wilderness Trip first held in 1982.
The Voyageurs Canoe Trip is a co-ed wilderness canoe camping experience offered to teens from age 14 through college. Its volunteer leaders are trained in the Safer Spaces program and Wilderness First Aid. They teach campers respect for the environment, lead campers in spiritual reflection among pristine forests and lakes of LaVerendrye Reserve, Canada, and help campers develop their own leadership skills. Campers make new friends, work hard, and gain respect for God's creation. They spend a week away from the pressures of everyday life, and they return home blessed with new vision, new wisdom, and new light.
